My Teaching Philosophy

As an MDC professor, I have served my students and my community with passion and conviction. In my interpersonal relationships, I encourage diversity, inclusion, and compassion. I motivate students to champion for the marginalized and encourage them to find their voice, defend their rights, and advocate for the rights of others. Social justice and activism are inextricably linked to my curricula as they are to my being. I challenge myself to acquire new discipline expertise by researching in my field, attending and presenting at conferences, and seeking publication opportunities. I create a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning and address the needs of various learning styles. My teaching is both collaborative and experiential. My teaching expertise is evident through a carefully planned curriculum imbued with high impact practices, meaningful extracurricular and civic engagement activities, and innovative and constantly evolving pedagogy.

Personal Interests

I enjoy time with my family and friends as well as my pets: my beagle Lucy and my two cats Bisou and Wen. Spending time by the ocean, eating chocolate, reading good books, traveling all over the world, and serving my community are all the things I need to be happy. Without a good book to keep you company and nature to re-energize you, life is meaningless.
